This post will share a few ideas for places to take your dog and dog friendly events in January. Please always double check and verify info with venues direct before heading out and when making plans as information can change.
Please direct any questions to the businesses too - I don't work for them and only have access to info that is freely available to the public. Let me know if there are any other events I should add to this list.
Veganuary at Tyne Bank Brewery - 22 January
This FREE event with no booking required is dog and child friendly. Expect fabulous food, stalls, drinks and info on all things vegan / sustainable. Find out more here.
Visit the Printworks Bar
Superworm Trail at Hamsterley Forest
This one may be a risk as I received a press release to say that the Superworm Trail was starting on 5 January however the Hamsterley Forest website says that it starts on 18 February. However many readers have been in touch to say that it has actually started now and they have completed it so I just think there has been some kind of comms mix up.
This trail is 1.5 miles long along surfaced paths through Hamsterley Forest. Mostly flat with a small section where there is an incline. It is £3.50 per activity pack (pick up from the visitor centre/cafe) and a perfect activity for families with small children and dogs this January. Find out more here.
Sunrise takes place between 7:59am and 8:30am this month. Make the most of the later starts and catch a sunrise at the beach followed by breakfast at one of the region's many dog-friendly beach cafes.
Watergate Cafe Dog Walk - 23 January
Watergate Cafe is a lovely dog friendly cafe in Watergate Park. They organise regular dog walks and this month, it falls on 23 January. Tickets should be pre-booked (£6.50 per person) and include a bacon sandwich and hot drink for humans (let them know if you would like a veggie option) plus a puppuchino for the pooch after a leisurely stroll around the park. Find out more and book here.

Newcastle Restaurant Week
Newcastle Restaurant Week takes place from 17 - 23 January. Lots of pubs, cafes and restaurants are taking part and offering exclusive set menus for £10/£15 or £20. There are some bargains to be had and it is a good opportunity to visit and try somewhere new. Find out more here.
Some of the venues taking part are dog-friendly and my top picks would be the Broad Chare, City Tavern, Horticulture, Revolution de Cuba and Twenty Twenty. Please always mention you will be bringing a dog when you book so they can allocate you into the right area.
Percy the Park Keeper's Winter Wander at Gibside
Another option which is good for families with dogs and kids is this winter trail which takes place at Gibside daily until 30 January. Trails cost £2 each (+ membership/admission) and you do not need to book ahead. Families can enjoy variety of winter activities along the trail. Find out more here.
Live Music Saturdays at Secret Garden Seaton Delaval
Dogs are always welcome at the Secret Garden Seaton Delaval and on Saturday 22nd and Saturday 29th, guests will be entertained by live music from 4pm. Find out more here.
Events at Land of Oak and Iron
Land of Oak and Iron is a lovely dog-friendly place to visit with a dog-friendly cafe, visitor centre and lovely walks nearby. Free parking too. They run lots of lovely events and January includes Board Game Tuesdays and a Quiz and Bingo Night. Find out more here.

I recently switched to a wood dog feeder, and I love how it adds a natural, stylish touch to my home while also being functional. The elevated design is perfect for my senior dog, helping him eat more comfortably by reducing strain on his neck and joints. Plus, wooden feeders are durable and easy to clean, making them a great long-term investment. If you're looking for both aesthetics and practicality, a wood dog feeder is a great choice!
